I live in a village in England and we often have floods around here and with this storm that has been hitting all of the UK over Christmas, I know there are a lot of people out there who have been effected by this weather. Luckily my house is never effected by any of the flooding but it does sometimes make it difficult travelling as we sometimes get stuck in the village with no way out.
Well I remember growing up, every time a storm hit, me and my brother used to sit at the door all wrapped up in blankets watching the storm. We used to count every time the lightening struck to when the thunder clapped and worked out how far away it was.
This got me thinking and I used that memory as inspiration for this nail art. I have seen something similar to it before so its not totally original but it's still one of my favourites to do as its quite simple and easy but looks amazing!
What you will need:
- Base coat & Top coat
- Sponge
- Tweezers (Optional)
- White Striper
- Black Polish
- Grey Polish
- Purple Polish
- Blue Polish
1. Apply base coat. Once dry apply black polish to the whole nail, this may need two coats depending on how opaque your black is, you want it completely opaque.
2. With your nails or a pair of tweezers, pull bits out of a make up sponge to create a lumpy edge.
3. Now with that lumpy edge of your sponge, apply a little bit of grey polish to it, you don't need a lot. Now lightly dab some grey onto the nail in patches. You don't want to cover the whole nail.
4. Do the same as you just did with the grey but with purple polish. Try to cover different sections of the nail but overlap some parts of the grey. Your aim is to make it look like storm clouds so it doesn't have to be neat.
5. Now do the same with the blue polish and let all of these dry completely.
6. Once dry, Use your white striper to draw on some wiggly lines going from the cuticle edge of your nail down towards the tip. This will become the lightening. If you don't have a white striper, you can just use a thin nail art brush and some white polish instead.
7. Apply a tiny bit of white polish onto the lumpy edge of your sponge and lightly press onto the nail. You get a better effect if you are heavier with this white near the cuticle where your lightening is striking from. Once completely dry, apply top coat.
I hope you enjoy recreating this nail art look and I'd love to see it, so If you do, put it on Instagram and #libidasnails
Stay Inspired
